Perth Regional Profile
As part of the process to ensure that the Strategic Regional Plan maintains its relevancy and currency, Perth ACC has developed this companion document, the Perth Regional Profile. This document presents economic and social data from a variety of sources to paint a picture of the metropolitan region from Yanchep—Two Rocks in the north to Kwinana and Armadale in the south and east to Kalamunda and Mundaring. It highlights areas of fast population growth, higher educational attainment, younger and older populations, industry growth and employment sector opportunities. |

Education participation rates are the number of 15-19 year olds attending school. The last 15 years has seen little change in those areas with low education participation rates, particularly the corridors. Education data for early school leavers shows a tendency for low participation rates beyond the age of compulsion and a lower probability of continuing onto higher education. There are a number of social health implications with statistical linkages between education participation, levels of education, occupation, income and wellbeing. In WA, the proportion of persons aged 15 years and over with a qualification rose from 30.7% in 1996 to 35.3% in 2001 (99,807 to 507,458 persons). Australia, as a whole, showed a similar rise from 30.0% to 34.7%. Perth Metropolitan Region Map 3.3 illustrates the pattern of inequality in opportunity throughout the PMR and its SLA’s. The outer northern and outer southern SLAs show the most significant concentrations of early school leavers, while the higher socioeconomic inner SLAs show the highest retention rates.
